Welcome to the Redding Republican Town Committee
Breaking News3.1.2010 Republicans Re-elect
Officers, Listen to Candidates, Select Delegates. . |
|
Locally and nationally, the Republican Party is resurgent. Our slate fared very well in the 2009 Redding
municipal elections. The GOP recently won two governorships and Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat.
The public has said “enough is enough” with respect to major government spending initiatives and the
burgeoning deficit. All of this augurs well for Republicans at all levels of government.
In conjunction with the public's renewed interest in fiscal responsibility and smaller government, the Redding Republican Town Committee is now busy with the selection of candidates for the 2010 races. U. S. Senate candidates Rob Simmons, Peter Schiff, and Linda McMahon have all met with us at length to discuss their records and platforms. We are fortunate to be able to choose among very able contenders for every position from Governor to U.S. Senate to Probate Judge, and we pledge to bring the most capable candidates to the voters in November.
The RTC has already come out in favor of to challenge Jim Himes in the Fourth Congressional District. We also support our own
John Shaban, who seeks to fill the big shoes of State Rep. John Stripp, of Weston. Rep. Stripp served admirably in the General Assembly for several years before retiring at the end of the last session.
John's law practice is
based in Greenwich, and he has been active in local civic affairs and has coached the Aspetuck Wildcats football team, so he enjoys broad support throughout the 135th Assembly district. John actively practices law in Stamford and has consensus-building skills that would serve him well as a legislator.
We always like to hear from Redding Republicans who wish to join the RTC or to serve in public office. Anyone interested should contact ,
chair of our Vacancy Committee, at or me. The 2010 election will be more wide-open and challenging than any in recent memory, and we look forward to your participation!

John Shaban & Family
Message
from John Shaban:
"I am running for Connecticut State
Representative for the 135th District – representing Weston, Easton and
south Redding. I am the father of three boys, a husband, lawyer and
nine-year Redding resident.
I am running because I am genuinely
concerned about the direction our State is heading, and concerned about
what this means for our children and grandchildren. I believe that, as a
citizen of our great State, I have an obligation to serve my community
and the public.
My goal is to be a member of that
new, energetic team of focused representatives that will, once and for
all, insist on reduced regulatory and tax burdens, financial prudence
and limited government. We need to make Connecticut a business haven
once again, and a place where hard work leads to prosperity. "

We are keenly aware that economic times require scrutiny of every expenditure, both big and small, in order to keep costs as low as possible. This challenge is familiar, because we have approached every budget for the past several years in this manner. Two years ago the actual increase in the Board of Selectmen budget was limited to 1.3% and last year’s actual increase was even less: .3% . Our budget responsibility starts with the preparation of the budget and continues all year as we monitor and try to control spending further.
There are some really good ideas for cost savings out there, and many of them we are already doing. We fully embraced the concept of regional purchasing several years ago, when we were one of the first towns in our region to join the Capitol Region’s purchasing consortium. We still belong, and take advantage of the bids they receive, or the state receives, whichever is lower. We also belong to a large, multi-town buying consortium for fuel oil, gasoline, and diesel, but are also willing to entertain bids from local firms if they are able to provide the needed products at an even lower cost.
If you have any questions or suggestions on town matters, you can reach me at 938-2002 or
email me at
. As always, I look forward to hearing from our residents. It is the best part of my job.
Thanks, Natalie Ketcham, First Selectman
